Biochemicals

Using a combination of synthetic biology, protein engineering, and metabolic engineering, Celexion scientists are able to engineer novel metabolic pathways in microorganisms for the production of important industrial biochemicals.  We have experience in the introduction and engineering of metabolic pathways to create new function, as well as engineering of particular enzymes in a pathway to improve kinetics, yield, and selectivity.

Examples of projects in this area include:
  • Introducing a pathway into a microorganism for generating industrially relevant chemicals from sugars
  • Improving specificity of an enzyme for a particular substrate
  • Generating hybrid enzymes to combine desirable activities
